At Oakfields, we believe in a “sports for all” approach and we offer a huge choice of sports as children progress throughout the school. We believe sport is an integral part of education and child development and it can have a hugely positive affect on confidence, moral values, team-working and leadership skills.
We encourage healthy competition, offering many fixtures with other schools in a wide range of sports throughout the year. We also have links with many outside organisations including West Ham and Chelsea Football Clubs, which provide further opportunities for children to improve their sporting prowess.
All our children from Kindergarten upwards have swimming lessons in our heated indoor pool. All sports lessons, led by our specialist sports teachers, focus on the teaching and practising of skills, in addition to the wider ranging areas of team work and strategic thinking. Given that we are a small school, we have historically achieved well in sport and are extremely proud of our successes, with many of our pupils competing at County level and achieving sports scholarships to independent secondary schools.
Sports Days are held in the Summer Term to which all parents are invited and there are numerous sport-related extra-curricular clubs.
Our curricular and extra-curricular sports include (according to demand):
Archery, Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Contact Rugby, Cycling Proficiency, Cricket, Cross-Country Running, Football, Hockey, Multi-Skills, Netball, Rounders, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tag Rugby, Tennis, Yoga
